“Transcendentia” is a collaborative production created by choreographer and performance artist Rene Köster and ten young people aged 15 to 21. The keywords of the performance are “the end of the world,” referring to both the anxious times we currently live in and the fact that in our younger years, some things may seem like the end of the world. The shattering of first love or a phone screen, running low on your allowance or favorite nail polish, losing your keys or a loved one. The performance focuses on queer culture to introduce an emotionally rich world which might be unfamiliar to some. It sheds a light on a minority where the young people are in a constant transformation.
The Latin word transcendentia signifies the reality that human cannot fully experience and the possibilities that exist beyond measurable time and space. Taking the stage are young people who are narrating their inner world through queer culture and inviting the audience into their personal spaces. Will we encounter rebellion or acceptance? Remaining true to oneself or blending in? Will a glimmer of light emerge from the dimly lit corner?
