Liis Karu “Poppy’s Abyss”

Liis Karu’s current exhibition, Poppy’s Abyss, explores womanhood through the body and the motif of the plant. The photographs open up intimate human experiences, such as desire, love, and grief. These feelings are placed in dialogue with the forces of nature, where they are compared, intertwined, and ultimately dissolve into one another.
Liis Karu is a photographic artist who describes her work as “photo poetry,” where metaphors are created through light. She works primarily with self-portraiture and nature, exploring embodied experience and presence within the landscape. Nature becomes a space where identity dissolves and the boundaries between human and environment blur. She approaches photography as a process of continuous transformation, where human, plant, stone, and light exist as different expressions of the same world.
