Julia Valtanen Stillpoint

Stillpoint is a series of collages created between 2022–2033. 

The art of collage invites us on a journey towards wholeness as the therapeutic process of assembling fragments also reflects a journey of self-discovery. The collage technique allows the mind to roam and dance freely, interweaving a narrative that brings clarity to a complex existence. By the careful placement of each fragment, Valtanen traverses the interplay of emotions, memories and aspirations. The result is a kaleidoscopic work transformed from the sum of its parts, from the stillpoints. 

Julia Valtanen (b. 1988) is an artist based in Tallinn. She has finished a painting course at the Estonian Academy of Arts and has a master’s degree in Graphic Design. Her main fields are oil and acrylic painting and collages on paper. As an artist, she is interested in the interconnections of different things. Valtanen reinterprets elements found in nature and surrounds them with new forms and spaces. Her work has been included in several private collections in the USA, England, Finland and Estonia.
