Greete Okas Rascals

Rascals is a set of works that began in 2022 as scribbles in a sketchbook. The series includes smugly characters of Greete Okas’ style – benevolent, heart-melting, but also snarky animals, who sometimes have an unreasonable desire to cause a little mischief. Animals, with their characteristics and behaviour, are the greatest muses for the artist. They need to be kept and loved, and capturing them through drawings is one way to amplify that message.

“Scribbling into a sketchbook is an important part of my creative process. I like to mark down and draw all kinds of nonsense and different characters without any context. When sketching, I don’t set limits for myself, but rather take it as a game that will have an unexpected ending at one point. My notebooks are filled with different forms. After a while, the desire arises to finish the works into digitally formatted prints and eventually they grow into complete works,” describes Okas.

Greete Okas (b. 1993) is a graphic designer and illustrator from Tallinn. In 2021, she presented her first solo exhibition The Bringers of Joy, which spoke about the artist’s love for humour, bright colours and animals.

All works are printed on high quality Canson Edition Etching Rag 310gsm paper, marked with a serial number and signed by the artist.
