EES seminar: field recordingtus

During the next Estonian Association of Electronic Music’s gathering we will explore the act of listening through diverse field recording techniques.

We’ll explore gathering the found sounds into ‘musical’ composition. Patrick McGinley will present his background and his work through a collection of sounds from his own field recording archive, discussing his notions of ‘active’ and ‘passive’ recording, as well as his hunt for ‘open’ and ‘hidden’ sounds. McGinley will then perform a short live set, accompanied by visuals provided by his regular film-making collaborator Daniel Allen, constructed from abstracted sounds recorded at the Räpina papermill in southeast Estonia during the filming of the experimental documentary film, ‘The Mill’.
