Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava and The Estonian Association of People with Movement Disabilities are organizing a unique dance marathon on the 29th of December.
Entertaining and fund-raising dance marathon invites you to dance off christmas stress and the weight of this year while shaking off the noise of our contemporary society. The aim of dance marathon is to celebrate movement culture while turning attention towards those who need help and hold weaker positions in society.
The dancing stamina test lasts for 12 hours, through which our jury looks after keeping in accordance with the rules and assesses dancing. Every hour, a different DJ plays music and the two hosts of the evening also cheer and energize our participants.
The first dance marathon that was held in 2017 attracted a crowd of participants and audience members. With the raised money were able to support disabled people’s visits to the rehabilitation center.
The golden era of dance marathons goes back to the 20-30’s of America where in the time of the Great Depression, dancing became a way to forget about the present’s worries and difficulties. Nowadays, dance marathons are popularized in American schools and universities as fund-raising events. We would like to introduce dance marathons as a cultural phenomenon and to increase knowledge on movement and dance culture.
