The last Friday of August has already built its own legend. But what happens the next day?

We have an idea: let’s slow down and turn the last Saturday of August into a relaxed, easygoing, and inspiring day! We invite you to wander, discover, and meet up at Telliskivi Creative City.

AVL is not a festival where you have to rush to see everything at once. It’s about taking your time and enjoying simple, delightful presence. It’s a day when Creative City’s creatives, studios, and businesses invite you to visit. You can peek behind the scenes of the creative process, join workshops, chat with designers, enjoy art, good music, and mouth-watering flavors.

What to expect? Feel free to show up without any plan at all, because there’s something exciting waiting around every corner:

✨ HANNES RÜÜTEL – END-OF-SEASON SALE 🍒 Spring/summer clothing and accessories up to 50% off this Saturday only, with minor defect items up to 70% off. A wide selection for both men and women. Designer and brand founder Hannes Rüütel will be in his studio shop in person! Studio open 11:00 AM–6:00 PM on the Creative City Shopping Street, Telliskivi 60a/3.

✨ JAAN TOOTSEN “PORTRAITS” EXHIBITION TOUR
Jaan is an absolute documentarian—his tools are a camera, a microphone, a great memory, and above all, endless curiosity. As the host of Ööülikool (Night University), he has curated a space for a quarter of a century for people to gather and discuss the meaning of life. On the Last Saturday of August, you have a rare opportunity to walk through the outdoor gallery with the author himself and hear firsthand stories behind the portraits. Guided tours scheduled at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

✨ LIIS KARU “DEPTH OF THE POPPY” EXHIBITION TOUR Liis Karu’s photo exhibition observes womanhood through the body and metaphor of a plant. The images reveal intimate human experiences such as desire, love, and grief. Human emotions are placed in dialogue with forces of nature and organic forms—blending, juxtaposing, and dissolving into them. At 6:30 PM in the Creative City Gallery, Telliskivi 60a/1 (indoor gallery on the shopping street, next to Fika café).

✨ VAAL GALLERY „PARALLELS OF ANTARES“ EXHIBITION TOUR WITH MARKO KASUR at 2:00 PM. The joint exhibition with Ludmilla Siim transcends the definition of geometric parallelism: lines running along different trajectories and shifted by more than a generation approach, touch, or even intersect.

✨ LIISA-LOTA JÕELEHT “EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL” EXHIBITION TOUR A cygnet is so soft and sweet that once you find a hiding spot among its warm thoughts, you hardly want to leave. Yet it has a life of its own, a room of its own, and dreams that also need attention. Come be part of an exchange of ideas with Liisa-Lota, whose work highlights childlike sincerity, passion, playfulness, and nostalgia. At 6:00 PM in the Creative City’s Konteiner Gallery (courtyard area, in front of the Reet Aus and Stella Soomlais studio).

✨ EKA “DANCING WITH THE STARS” EXHIBITION TOUR In an exhibition inspired by typography class letter design and its process, graphic design students Adele Markova and Helen Forsel will lead a tour at 4:00 PM.

✨ DOKFOTO CENTRE EXHIBITION TOUR x POEET DESIGN Kristel Aimee presents Poeet Design kimonos and handcrafted pleated scarves. Many kimonos will be available at special prices on this day. At 2:00 PM, a curator-led tour of Claus Rohland’s exhibition “Only a Traveler Feels Like a Stranger” begins at the Dokfoto Centre.

✨ MARTA VAARIK “SEEK AND FIND THAT POWER” ARTIST HAPPENING. The artist herself will be present at this significant installation to discuss the artwork and its background. See you at 5:30 PM in the Kuppel Gallery.

✨ KARIN RASK OPEN STUDIO
12:00 PM–3:00 PM. Karin Rask opens her studio doors to introduce the new autumn/winter collection. Fine wool suits, vests, and trousers; warm all-wool bomber jackets, and elegant dresses, skirts, and blouses await you! Summer collection items are 30% off for one day only! The studio is located in building A2 of Creative City—the easiest entrance is by café Fika, up the stairs to the 2nd floor, in the middle of the corridor on the right (at the locked door, select Karin Rask on the screen to ring).

✨ GWUBI OPEN STUDIO
11:00 AM–3:00 PM. In-stock summer collection items at the showroom are 30% off. The studio is located in Creative City, building A2, 3rd floor (entrance by Fika).

✨ TEXTILE VISIONS x KATRIN PARKER OPEN STUDIO Exciting fabrics and a world of patterns! Katrin opens her studio to share captivating stories about textiles, give out craft samples, and sell fabrics off the shelf! Open from 11:00 AM as long as interest lasts, on the 3rd floor of Telliskivi 60a/2 (entrance by Fika).

✨ FRESH ROOFTOP HONEY & BEEKEEPER TALKS Did you know Creative City has its own bees and a golden harvest? For AVL, the pink-labeled honey jar will be on sale in the courtyard—find it along with the beekeeper and sweet honey stories!

✨ JUHEKO / KANGASJUHE WORKSHOP Opening its doors for a couple of hours from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Bring an old lamp along and get advice on how to restore it!

✨ FOTOGRAFISKA
Fotografiska Café invites you to celebrate the end of summer with an outdoor grill right outside the café! The grill will be fired up on August 29 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. If the weather turns sour, we’ll move indoors and welcome everyone to the café with our regular menu, fresh baked goods, and other tasty treats.

✨ VÄLI | SMALL FARMERS’ FLOWER POP-UP Estonian-grown plants and flower farms stall in the courtyard from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You can also order bouquets for September 1st! Come check it out! Additionally, VÄLI will host 🌸Floral Hair Accessories🌸 on Saturday. Come craft a lovely hair ornament for yourself using beautiful local blooms! We will use both fresh and dried flowers. No pre-registration required, participation contribution is €10, running from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

✨ REET AUS x STELLA SOOMLAIS OPEN STUDIO
11:00 AM–5:00 PM. Get ready for the autumn season at the Estonian design store, where you can explore new seasonal products as well as works by guest designers Patrick Soome, Marit Pöör, Tarmo Luisk, and Cervo Volante. Additionally, Reet Aus’s exhibition “AUS. SHIRT. Meaning a shirt is a choice” is open in the studio, along with a Friends Sale featuring previous season items at up to 60% off.

✨ MONDO OPEN DOORS
Come learn about work in the humanitarian aid and development cooperation sector, check out the library, and browse Mondo Crafts baskets and other handmade items. We’ll also help teachers and youth workers set goals for the new global education school year with recommended materials. Doors open 12:00 PM–4:00 PM!

✨ BÄSTARD SILKSCREEN WORKSHOP x ENDLESS CYCLE 12:00 PM–5:00 PM. Bring an old, forgotten garment or choose something new from the on-site second-hand selection. Give it a new life by screen-printing an EndlessCycle design directly onto the piece. Choose from various designs and print your favorite with hands-on guidance throughout the process. Designs revealed right before the event! €5 per design (cash). Second-hand clothing prices vary by item.

✨ VIVITA SOLUTIONS LABORATORY KIDS AREA
Vivita’s super cool pipe free-play area and the popular kids’ festival Twister game will be set up in the courtyard. Built for kids to go wild!

✨ NEIGHBORHOOD OPEN STUDIO x UPSTAIRS OBJECTS — open studio / first look 11:00 AM–5:00 PM. Peek inside the new world of UPSTAIRS Objects. We’ll be showing new objects in development, prototypes, experiments, and the work process itself. It’s a first look at a new direction rather than a finished exhibition—an opportunity to see how ideas, forms, and objects take shape.

✨ PÕHJA KONN AVL GRILL & CHILL From 2:00 PM into the evening: great food and music.

✨ SLAISS PIZZA x VON KRAHL BAR 🍕 The Slaiss Pizza pop-up awaits you for the final hang of the summer on the Von Krahl terrace starting at 12:00 PM. Bittersweet, but we’re thrilled because this summer was epic! #hotslaisssummer

✨ BAR IDA: DJ IS YOUR PERSONA Last party of the Summer with the one and only YOU and: celestica / shion / Europa (DE) / Freestyler (DE) Doors open at 10:00 PM (Telliskivi 60a/5)

✨ CLUB OF DIFFERENT ROOMS: SUCCULENT CIRCUS | ICELANDIC CABARET in TALLINN. Dance like everyone is watching. Succulent Circus is a cabaret-style show mixing burlesque, circus, and comedy. Hosted by Iceland’s first professional drag icon Gógó Starr, featuring the mother of the Icelandic burlesque scene Miss Mokki, voluptuous hooper and burlesque dancer Bobbie Michelle, and circus studs Dan the Man and Mr. Tombastic. Expect a show that will leave the audience howling with laughter, oohs, and aahs. Doors: 6:00 PM | Show starts: 7:00 PM
