Johannes Luik Space for the everyday: Object 4 (Chandelier)
The object (Chandelier) hanging in the middle of the space is part of a series Space for the Everyday that works with everyday objects and the space around them.
The spherical glass dome holds approximately 82.5 cubic metres of space.
A wooden object hangs in the middle of it.
The form is divided around a central vertical axis and mirrored in six directions.
The volume of the object is divided into three parts.
Chandeliers have been associated with wealth.
The chandelier takes up a large spatial volume, but is relatively light in weight.
The form is created similarly to creating a point cloud in a 3D environment.
Such approach gives the opportunity to create something large without becoming too heavy. It seems as if the object is mostly made of air.
The used material is simple construction wood that hangs up with chains. The wood contains sketches and technical descriptions that are in dialogue with each other. It is almost as a fragmentary, non-verbal narrative.
Brass screws are iridescent on the wood.
