Marc Léger Sauvageot’s exhibition Cry, Art, Cry and Lament will be opened in Telliskivi Loomelinnaku Galerii on 12th of February at 6PM.
The exhibition title Cry, Art, Cry and Lament is inspired by an inscription on the frame of Lucas Moser’s Magdalene Altarpiece from 1432: “Schrei Kunst schrei, und beklag dich sehr, deiner begehrt jetzt niemand mehr so, o weh” The inscription expresses a sense of regret that art is no longer needed or valued. This is highly unusual for an altarpiece, bringing a complaint about the status of art into a religious context. Its meaning lingers with the viewer precisely because of its unexpectedness.
Marc Léger Sauvageot (b. 1999) is a painter based in Tallinn. His practice centres on tempera painting. He often works in series and polyptychs. His works draw on personal memory, explored through art-historical motifs, religious references, and hidden meanings.
