Üüve-Lydia Toompere’s new performance “Flex” focuses on relevant themes such as the constant competition with oneself and others and a world built on perfection, as well as the increasingly common question: what is suitable for someone in terms of culture, gender and age? She is interested in what are the limits of human ability, both physically and in terms of social frameworks. By building her body and space, Toompere takes viewers to a displaced gym, a parallel reality where the focus is on the impossible ability of the individual. The power station injects faith as well as puts it to the test by clashing with social stereotypes.
